The city of San Diego has announced August 2011 as the Month of Finland. This means that the people in San Diego are invited to enjoy a variety of Finnish performances and exhibitions throughout the month.

A strong focus will be on Finnish art. Several art exhibitions will be on display at Balboa Park in San Diego:The Mingei International Museum will offer a Finnish Design Exhibit called “Northern Stars”, and local Finnish American artists will display their art at Spanish Village Studio 21. In addition, The Museum of Man will host “Tower After Hours:Finland” event on August 4. Balboa Park is the largest urban cultural park in the United States and home to more than a dozen museums, several performing arts venues, gardens and more.

Another strong focus will be on Finnish film. FinnFest 2011 will host a Finnish film festival. We are working together with the AMC Fashion Valley in San Diego where several Finnish movies will be shown during FinnFest 2011.

With the month of Finland we hope to strengthen the Finland-country brand in the United States and awaken curiosity of what Finland has to offer.
