Music

Music is one of most important resources setting the mood of FinnFest 2011 in San Diego. Visitors will hear a full range of music from traditional folk and choir music to popular music and musical theatre.

Live music by top artists will be offered on several stages in the resort. In addition to the Tori stage, places like Charlie’s will have musicians performing throughout the days of FinnFest.

Choirs from both the West and East Coasts will be performing at FinnFest, with a mass performance organized by the Choir of San Diego. FinnFest 2011 will also give the stage to various classical music artists, showcasing modern Finland through a wide range of accomplished Finnish artists to entertain visitors in San Diego.

FinnFest 2011 will celebrate Finnish-American music culture with a concert honoring Finnish-American artists. And Finnish cultural heritage will be widely represented through various folk music performances.

In order to create a cohesive overall program, the music theme will connect to other themes presented in FinnFest 2011. For instance some of the musical acts will perform with the dance groups and some of the concerts are geared to entertain the children. Also the Finnish-Swedish theme will have its own musical performances and the Kantele-theme will connect music to Finnish cultural aspects. Three musical theatre performances will combine music and theatre. Finnish music will also be approached through lectures and kantele-playing lessons.

In conclusion the music theme of FinnFest 2011 will include choir, classical, Finnish-American, folk, pop, jazz and rock music and musical theatre. With this ensemble we will be sure to catch the Finnish wave of music!
